I almost never take pictures, partially because my best friend is a freaking brilliant photographer, and I'd much rather see things through her lens than mine. Plus, I'd rather actually BE in the moment instead of trying to capture it on film all the time and failing utterly - it's why I surround myself with people who like to take pictures! I get to remember everything without having to do any work. Also, I suck.
That being said, I couldn't help myself today at the Armory; there were some things there that were just too beautiful and interesting to forget about so: I give you my phone photography!
That's right, people. Those are effing pushpins! PUSHPINS!!! I am so in love that I am flabbergasted. How are there people in the world this talented?? I have to admit that I feel a little like an unskillful, graceless, incompetent, bumbling oaf when I'm in that building because I could never in a million years create anything CLOSE to as cool as the people who occupy that space, but then I remember that everything is NOT about me and settle into a comfortable state of awe and gratitude for the fact that someone else IS capable of making these things so that I can experience them in this quiet, beautiful place.
THEN! There was THIS!!!
Haute couture gown? Indeed it is. But it's completely made of crepe paper, Arby's sandwich wrappers (the silver), and the rosettes are Subway sandwich wrappers, chip bags, and other recycled bits with candy here and there. Can you say DELICIOUS!?!?!?!?
I need to sit in this building for a few minutes each day to get my zen on and convene with the art world again. Oh, how I miss it! FUN FUN FUN TIMES!!
